A recent research has underlined how nuts improve mood.
This research is not true for eveybody but it has been observed in particular with men and above all among young people.
The research was made by the University of New Mexico and it was published by the magazine Nutrients: it took into consideration 64 young people between the ages of 18 and 25 years who were placed on a specific diet for a period of 16 weeks, 8 of which with the addition of nuts.
At the end of the period the mood was measured with the POMS test (Profiles of Mood States), a specific instrument that considers anxiety, rage, depression, energy, tiredness and confusion and the results were very interesting: it was found that 28% of young men had a considerable mood improvement, while this did not emerge for young women.
The causes of this positive effect on young men are still unknown, but it is assumed that some nutrients can contribute to mood improvement and in particular the mix of: alpha-linoleic acid, folic acid, polyphens, melatonin and vitamin E.
