The question seems trivial but it is not because every day we find many acronyms but we do not care to know their meaning. The kilocalories are shown in all the food packages, including supplements.
The abbreviation "kcal" is a unit that measures food energy: 1 kcal equals to 1000 cal and 4,186 kilojoules (kJ).
Here are indicated some energy values of nutrients:1 g of protein develops 4 kcal as 1 g of glucides, while 1 g of the lipids produces 9 kcal. The water, the vitamins and minerals they have no caloric value.
