The numbers which concern food waste in the world are FRIGHTENING!
The Polytechnic University in Milan has estimated that every year 5,1 milion tons of food are wasted.
This fact is still more serious if we consider that numerous people have to face continued difficulties to follow a correct nutrition. In this regard,suffice it to say that, according to Istat , there are 5 million people that suffer from "food poverty" up to now in Italy and they can't eat a complete meal from the protein point of view at least every two days.
And without taking into consideration the even more serious situations of some countries of the so-called Third World.
Analyzing these facts, the food waste that is present nowadays becomes unbearable and it is duty of each of us to take charge of this problem trying to reduce waste as much as possible.
Give food a "second life" has become necessary.
Some useful arrangements/information to keep in mind concern, for example, the indication which is usually found "best before..." where it is stated that the product can be used even after the date of expiry without harmful effects for our body provided that there are some characteristics.
Other easy actions concerning food storage are, for example, rember to keep the bread in the refrigerator in the evening to conserve it longer.
In this regard the "Fondazione Banco Alimentare" and Caritas have written a handbbok, revised by the Ministry of Health, that provides guidance for the operators in order to guarantee the safety of the products that are collected for the most deprived, trying to encourage in this way donators to recover food and to diminish waste.
